Jack of Spades Cutout
This is a piece that I made for an Art Appreciation class I took my Freshman year of college for a general education class (non art major). The assignment was simple, create any object using black and white construction paper. I wanted a challenge, so I picked a Jack of Spades. Using a xacto knife, I carefully cut the white paper to form a Jack of Spade with the negative black space.
Size: 8" x 12"
Medium: White construction paper on black construction paper
Visual Concepts: Place Project
For this assignment, we had to relate our project to place. My project has to do with the places that I've been by compiling all of my pictures into a mosaic in the shape of my eye. The concept behind this piece is that, without eyes, I could not have seen any of these places nor experienced them. The process involved using AndreaMosaic to create the mosaic with my pictures, creating the eye. Then, using Photoshop, I made 16 6" x 4" files to print. After each file was printed, I rearranged the photo to create the eye and glued them to matboard.
Size: 20" x 14"
Visual Concepts: Self Project
For my class, we were assigned to create a piece that represented our self image in anyway. I chose to alter my face and head to portray a different type of person. The word self comes into play with the idea of wondering what I would look like if I was born differently or was at a different time frame in my life. The different alterations that I made were to represent an older person, an African American person and an Asian person using photoshop.
