Facebook Profile Pictures

I was never really a fan of selecting a Facebook profile picture, but I recently found that they can be a lot of fun. After figuring out the dimensions of a Facebook profile picture, 200px by 600px, I came up with a few ideas that people wouldn’t expect to see as a profile picture. I wanted to be creative and use the Facebook layout style as part of my picture, as if I was actually on the page. Here are a few designs that I came up with: (click to enlarge)

    Thanks for the comments!

First I took a picture of myself using a self timer in the position I needed to make the photo. Then using photoshop, I cut myself out of the background by using the eraser tool or a quick mask. Once I had my body cutout, I created the old facebook layout profile picture – the one with the top border which can be made fairly easily by just screen printing on facebook and matching the background to fit cleanly as the profile picture. Once that’s done, I just positioned my cutout properly and added shadows as needed.

Here’s another concept I came up with using this method: http://www.neilsavagedesign.com/2010/08/facebook-zipline-profile-picture/
